Crafting Tranquility: From Mud Design Studio in Kuwait City

Nestled on the first floor of a 1967 Modernist building in Kuwait City’s textile market, From Mud Design Studio is a haven for ceramic artistry. Conceived by Rawan Muqaddas, the studio reflects a vision of therapeutic creativity within an urban landscape.

Embodying Serenity

From Mud emanates a sense of calm and tranquility, inspired by the therapeutic nature of clay sculpting. The studio’s interior, characterized by clean lines and a soothing palette, pays homage to the craft of clay while offering a serene workspace. Natural light filters through fluted glass, casting gentle shadows and ensuring privacy, while perimeter shelving crafted from steel and maple wood provides functionality and elegance.

A Space of Exploration

Designed as a space for discovery and creation, From Mud accommodates ceramicists of all skill levels. The studio features storage and shelving tailored to the ceramist’s daily routine, along with a kiln room, semi-private office, and lounge area. The challenge lay in optimizing the compact space for maximum efficiency without compromising on storage or functionality.

Harmonizing Form and Function

Key products such as solid and veneered maple wood, stainless steel shelving systems, and fluted glass were carefully selected to enhance the studio’s aesthetic and functionality. Muqaddas prioritized natural light, integrating elements that mimic the building’s facade and create an interplay of light and shadow throughout the day. The result is a space that seamlessly blends form and function, reflecting the studio’s ethos of accessibility and creativity.

Bridging Tradition and Modernity

From Mud’s founder, Aisha Al-Saif, aims to democratize ceramic art by teaching techniques from diverse cultural traditions. Situated in Kuwait’s revitalizing textile market, the studio breathes new life into a once-neglected urban space. By repurposing the building’s upper floors, From Mud injects youthful energy into the urban fabric, transforming neglected spaces into vibrant creative hubs.

A Testament to Creativity

From Mud Design Studio is more than a workspace; it’s a testament to the transformative power of creativity. By blending traditional craftsmanship with modern design principles, Rawan Muqaddas has crafted a space where artistry thrives and inspiration flows freely. In the heart of Kuwait City, From Mud stands as a beacon of tranquility and creativity, inviting all to discover the therapeutic magic of clay sculpting.
